Комбинация
Kombinaciya, the Perestroika/Glasnost Russian girl band was a mirror of a society “blossoming” from a Communist state to a young untamed “democracy.” Their name is a doubt entendre meaning both “combination” and “negligee.” Their looks and songs were tailored to fit Russia’s most fashionable trends. Their lyrics struck a chord with every fear and desire Russians had at that time. So looking at Kombinaciya of the early 1990’s is like looking into the chronicles of the troubled Russian soul on the verge of a new era.
Living in Russia seemed like hell in the early 1990’s. Many people wanted to leave to the United States, and Kombinaciya was there to encourage with songs like American Boy and Hollywood.
If you think that the girls look like prostitutes, you may be right.
Soon mail ordered brides hit the market, and sex tourism flourished. And Kombinaciya sang on, “Russian girls..give me, give me, give me love.”
